An incorrigible doodler of eyes since childhood, Dutch-born artist and OCAD grad Elsha Leventis is fascinated by the intricate landscape of the iris and the effects of light as seen through the eye. Oil-based pigments and mediums on both matte Mylar supports and canvas create a rich and interesting contrast of textures and evoke light spots and cellular reproduction. Elsha constantly creates an interplay between positive and negative space, with negative space as important as the painting itself. Her award-winning work called Eyescapes represent an attempt to capture the complexity of the eye in a creative and playful manner so that the viewer can look at the eye with “new eyes.”
